Plan your wedding ring workshop
Your wedding bands can reflect both your individual styles and the experience of making them. Create your own rings or make them for each other, with a goldsmith guiding just the two of you in our working jewellery studio.
You’ll spend time together at a real jewellery bench, learning the tools and techniques behind the pieces you’ll wear. Your instructor guides the making, with room for each person’s design and pace.
A simple polished band, a hammered surface or a more sculptural shape: the design begins with what you each enjoy wearing. Your rings can match or have their own character.
Both methods can create a band to sit alongside your engagement ring. We’ll help you choose at a complimentary consultation.
Choose sterling silver or 10k–18k yellow, white or rose gold. Palladium white gold is also available for hand-fabricated bands. We’ll discuss material estimates based on your metal, ring sizes, widths, designs and current market prices. For wax-carved rings, the final metal cost is calculated once your models are complete.
Our goldsmiths can add engraving or gemstones for an additional charge. Stone setting is not part of the workshop instruction. Some additions can be completed on the day; others need more time. Share your ideas when you inquire so we can discuss timing and costs.
There are two ways to work at the bench: shape the metal itself, or carve a wax model that becomes your ring. Here’s what happens in each process.
Work directly with your chosen metal to make classic bands with a polished, matte or hammered finish.
With your instructor’s guidance, you’ll learn to heat, shape, solder and finish your rings using a torch and hand tools. Choose the width and profile of each band, including rounded, flat and comfort-fit options. Your rings can match or reflect each person’s style.
One private session · Approximately 4–5 hours
Most couples finish their bands during the workshop. Engraving, gemstones or other custom additions may need more time.
Explore organic shapes, patterns and sculptural details by carving your rings in jewellery wax.
Wax gives you room to develop depth, texture and individual shapes. You’ll use hand tools to cut, file, shape and carve your models. Our team then casts them on-site in your chosen metal before you return to finish the rings.
Up to six hours to develop your designs and carve the wax models.
Up to four hours to learn about lost-wax casting, then file, sand, polish and finish your cast bands.
There is usually a week between sessions. We’ll agree both dates with you before requesting payment for the workshop.
Bring your jewellery for inspection in advance. We’ll discuss any preparation, additional gold or extra time your designs may need.
An inherited ring or unworn piece of jewellery can become part of your wedding bands. After we assess its suitability, you’ll learn to prepare the jewellery, melt and pour the gold into an ingot, then work it into your rings. Allow approximately six hours.
Your gold may also be suitable for casting. Bring it in before the workshop so our team can inspect it and discuss preparation costs. Our jewellers prepare the gold for casting; the two-session carving and finishing process stays the same.
We recommend booking 2–3 months ahead, especially for weekends. Weekdays usually offer more flexibility. Have a shorter timeline? Get in touch and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Ring sizes, metal choices and designs can come later. Start with a conversation or ask for a complimentary in-person consultation.
For hand-fabricated bands, confirm your metal, ring sizes, widths and profiles at least two weeks before the workshop so we can prepare your materials. We’ll help you make these decisions.
Travelling to Richmond? Confirm your workshop dates with us before booking your trip. Hand fabrication usually takes one session; wax carving needs two, typically a week apart.
Share your preferred dates and any ideas. You don’t need every detail decided.
We’ll discuss the project, materials, costs and every session date.
Once all dates are agreed, pay the workshop fee through the payment link. Your booking is confirmed after payment. Materials and extra services are paid on the day.
No experience is needed. Your instructor works with just you and your partner and guides you through each stage, from your first ideas to the final polish.
Yes. Make your own ring or your partner’s, whichever feels right for you. Your instructor will guide you through the process.
Both methods can accommodate a band designed to sit alongside an engagement ring. The best approach depends on its shape and setting, and your preferred design. Bring it to a complimentary in-person consultation so we can assess the fit together.
Most hand-fabricated bands are completed during the session. Wax-carved bands are finished in the second session after casting. Additional customization may take longer.
Yes. You can inquire without knowing your ring sizes, choosing a metal or settling on a design. Share your ideas, or request a complimentary in-person consultation, and we’ll recommend a suitable approach.
An inquiry does not reserve a date. We’ll agree the design, costs and all session dates, then send a payment link for the workshop fee. Your booking is confirmed after payment. Materials and additional services are paid on the workshop day.
