Soldering Bootcamp - November 14 and 15

Master the fundamentals of jewellery soldering in this intensive, hands-on weekend workshop.

Soldering is one of the most essential skills in jewellery making, and one of the trickiest to master. Understanding how heat moves through metal, where to place your flame, how much solder to use, and how to achieve a clean, strong joint takes knowledge, repetition, and plenty of practice.

That is exactly what our 2-Day Soldering Bootcamp is designed to provide.

Over two full days in our Steveston jewellery studio in Richmond, BC, you’ll focus on practical soldering exercises using sterling silver wire in different thicknesses. You’ll work with hard, medium, and easy silver solder, learning how their different melting temperatures allow you to make multiple solder joints when creating more complex jewellery.

Rather than trying a technique once and moving on, this workshop gives you the opportunity to repeat the soldering process again and again, developing better torch control, confidence, accuracy, and an understanding of how silver behaves under heat.

You’ll learn how to prepare metal and joints for soldering, use flux and solder correctly, control and direct the torch flame, recognize when the metal reaches soldering temperature, work with different grades of solder, troubleshoot common soldering problems, and clean and finish your work.

As you develop these skills, you’ll put them into practice by creating your own handmade sterling silver necklace to take home at the end of the weekend.

Our class size is intentionally limited so each student has plenty of bench time, detailed instruction, and one-on-one assistance from our instructors.

No previous jewellery-making experience is required. All sterling silver, solder, tools, equipment, and other materials needed for the workshop are provided.

For safety in the studio, please wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Long hair must be tied back, and scarves, loose sleeves, or other loose clothing that could present a safety hazard should not be worn.
